TimeSync

windowsntptime syncwindows clockwindows servicego

Small NTP time sync for Windows. One EXE, run it once or keep it running as a Windows service.

terminal
> ntp-sync.exe -install 30
[INFO] Service started. Sync interval: 30m0s
[NTP] Initial synchronization successful,
clock offset was 19ms
✓ Clock is accurate again

A tiny tool that sets the Windows clock via NTP. One EXE, no installer, no dependencies. Run it once, keep it running in a console window, or set it up as a Windows service with one command.

What TimeSync can do

  • Three modes: sync once, regularly in a window, or as a Windows service
  • Accurate: uses the standard NTP exchange with four timestamps, network delay gets subtracted
  • Safe: every reply from the time server is checked before the clock is touched. A broken or forged reply can’t mess up your clock.
  • Boot-proof: if the network isn’t up yet right after startup, it automatically retries the first sync
  • Traceable: the service logs every sync with the measured offset

FAQ

Windows sets the clock itself, so why TimeSync?

On regular PCs the built-in time service only syncs at long intervals and sometimes just stalls without you noticing. Then at some point your clock is off by a few seconds or minutes. TimeSync syncs reliably, and as a service it logs every sync with the measured offset, so you can see it’s actually happening.

Why does TimeSync need admin rights?

Because Windows only lets you set the system clock with admin rights. That goes for every program, not just TimeSync.

Can a bad time server mess up my clock?

No. TimeSync checks every reply from the server before the clock is touched. Broken or forged replies get thrown away.

Do I need to install anything?

No. TimeSync is a single EXE without installer and without dependencies. Just run it, or set it up as a Windows service with one command. How that works is in the README on GitHub.

Can I use TimeSync at work?

Yes. TimeSync is under the MIT license and free for anything, commercial use included.
